This walk is an effort to reduce the drop-out crisis in Georgia by bringing “at risk” students to a college campus. There these kids and their parents get exposed to college – in many cases for the first time. We will be helping get the word out about the event by working with elected officials and other organizations who want their constituents and members to know about the Mentor Walk!
Other major sponsors include Coca-Cola, Northside Hospital, SFC Energy, and Better World Books. The Mentor Walk has also received major support from Governor Nathan Deal, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle (and his Healthy Kids Georgia initiative), Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed, the Atlanta City Council, U.S. Senator Johnny Isakson, U.S. Representative Hank Johnson, State Minority Leader Stacey Abrams, State Rep. Jason Carter, and DeKalb CEO Burrell Ellis.
And there are a bunch of super-cool organizations involved too – the CDC, YMCA, Boys & Girls Clubs, Mix 1, Georgia Organics, Jason’s Deli, Converse, Outwrite Books, and many more!
